Goth Boots- Black Leather Bliss, Heel to Toe
Gothic boots remind me of the first time I tromped my gothic boots through
the rich loamy earth of an overgrown cemetery? Black leather footwear kicking
up ocher and rust dirt which remained on the top of my feet- the hint of jasmine
and lilies floated on the wind as I took each calm, calculated step. I’m
glad my boots had a platform heel, because it had just rained and the earth
was collapsing under my feet, making the hike difficult. I finally reached the
rocky terrain of the upper levels, looked out into the now darkened sky, into
the beaming full moon and took a deep breath, filling my lungs with the smell
of death and flowers. Overjoyed at my choice of gothic footwear as the thick
soles kept my tender feet from feeling the unevenness of the ground, I trod
on.
Let’s walk a moment, praising my goth combat boots, as they were, by far,
the best preparation I did for the trip. They were tall, black leather boots
with eyelets instead of speed laces. The toe box didn’t pinch; the arch
was comfortable. The platform sole was tall for a gothic style boot, but not
so tall that I had to constantly try to keep my balance. They were made from
rich, supple leather (not that fake pleather or vinyl stuff) and since I had
worn them every day for a week prior to my outing, they fit like a glove. They
were tall, over-the-calf boots; they had straps and buckles at the top to keep
them securely on. You had the option of ordering them with a knife pouch on
the side, but I always felt that was more for the military combat crowd and
not for the gothic boot crowd. How many Goths have you seen in boots with knife
pouches? There are the occasional confused Goths who can’t decide if they
want to be militant or depressingly dreary, so they come off looking like a
commando zombie Goth.
Your choice of footwear defines your gothic style. The color could be brown,
black or charcoal, red, white, or rose, but they inevitably round off your entire
ensemble. A poor choice of boot for a gothic persona could spell disaster. A
party last month had as the theme: “Just Risen – The Mausoleum Tour”.
There were fabulous costumes with party goers wearing everything from gothic
pimp boots to fetish spiked heel Goth boots. Most bowed at the feet of Dark
Footwear Fashion and added to the party. A hopeless few of those low class Goths,
however, went to the discount goth boot store and bought the first pair of goth-like
boots they could find. I really can’t abide punk goth boots with spikes,
or used goth boots that they try to revive with a fresh coat of boot polish.
If Lestat wouldn’t wear it, it’s not a true vamp tramper.
Call me a Gothic boot snob. I have standards that I feel others should try to
reach. You won’t be a heel if you remember: clothes may make the man,
but boots make the Goth. Nothing tromps goth
boots.
